Definitely looks cool, but I feel like I'm missing a lot because I still haven't seen the original movie. I saw the first few minutes once, and then the badly scratched rental DVD gave out.

Seriously, I watched that literally twice in a row as soon as I downloaded it.

Also, since I heard the movie is also a partial sequel to the game Tron 2.0, I've been watching a Let's Play on YouTube. It does look like everything that annoys me about a FPS, but the visuals are _sumptuous_. Plus, it definitely looks like the movie is going to use elements from the game. Even the title comes from the game's MacGuffin!

From what I've heard, the game isn't considered fully canon to the movies, but the new movie will take many plot points and historical notes from the game--like Flynn disappearing, new light cycle design, son of a main character trying to find his father, etc. But in the movie, it's Flynn's son rather than Alan's who enters the digital world, and from what I've heard there's also considerable interaction between Flynn's son and programs that Flynn has written... in something not unlike sibling rivalry.

Yes, we will see Clu 2.0. Tron himself will also be returning.

One thing I've heard is that Yori's not in it, and that is a definite no-no if their aim is to target the fans. Yes, she did virtually nothing in the first movie, but she had TITS. And geekboys love them some tits.

Of course, it could be disinformation. She did do a character voice in tron 2.0 though, so maybe she'll pop up as a voice actor.

Update: I finished watching the Let's Play of tron 2.0. It was really pretty and I'm glad I watched all the way through, but aside from a few levels at the very end, there was nothing in it that looked fun to actually play. Just the standard 'shoot the same baddies over and over forever' FPS. That said, Mercury was a neat character. Though, like all the others, they handled her awkwardly. It'd be really interesting if she made an appearance in the movie.

The variety of weapons was more fun than the variety of enemies... but it was SEVERELY hampered by the fact that they ALL USE THE SAME AMMO, and said ammo is VERY limited even when fully upgraded. I usually ended up using the default disc for nearly everything simply because it was the only thing that didn't use up energy--which you ALSO need for downloading files from bins! Sure, it would have complicated the game a bit to have separate ammo for every weapon, and have that be separate from the energy used for other things... but it would have been a GOOD complication! GAH.

I was wondering why the Let's Play guy almost always used the disc.

It's such a shame, there are so many awesome weapons, the Energy Claw, the Prankster Bit... but generally all too expensive in energy to use for more than two or three foes before switching back to the disc.

Actually the Energy Claw is one of two exceptions--it DRAINS energy and health from an enemy, but it's melee range only which means you kinda have to sneak up on them. For the few stealth sections, though, the Rod primitive is even better; even though it only drains energy, not health, it's completely silent. The weak point of those weapons is that if you're NOT draining from an enemy, it continually drains energy if you try to activate it. :P

Also, interestingly enough, though Prankster Bit is listed in the manual as having a "GOLD" version, it is to my knowledge the only weapon it is IMPOSSIBLE to get a GOLD version of without using a cheat code, because at the point in the game where you get the first Alpha version of it, there's only one code optimizer left in the game, and you can't download a Beta version of it, you can only get Beta by using optimizers. So the only way to get the GOLD version is to type "mpkfa" in the chat window to get all weapons, then proceed through the game till you find two optimizers.

This sounds like the game I'd only play with cheat codes.

I tend to prefer solving levels to killing baddies anyway.

The unofficial patch/mod version 1.1 will have improved cheat codes (in the original, there's not even a cheat code to give all items/permissions, just all weapons at alpha level!). And with god mode on, any FPS becomes about solving the levels and in Tron 2.0 there's a lot of secret areas to find.

Hmm, it begins to sound interesting now. I'm all about anal-retentively tracking down every last secret in an FPS while in God mode.

You'll end up looking down on a set of floating platforms and think "How the heck did I manage to jump up THAT?!"
